So … who the heck am I?
For the sake of this blog, and its purpose, my identity doesn’t matter. Besides, I’m writing about my state of mental health anonymously so I may be more open, more honest. It’s cathartic.
I will say this, however:
- I’m female
- I live in the United States of America
- I have a diagnosed mental illness rooted in trauma
- I am receiving therapy for that mental illness
Here’s Why I Started The Crazy Chronicles
I began The Crazy Chronicles as a way to cope with some of the intense shame and isolation I began feeling as my mental illness progressed and I started therapy.
As a society, we talk about fighting the stigma associated with mental illness. And from a distance, I do believe we’re making headway.
But the moment you are diagnosed with a mental health condition, or a family member begins suffering from one, the world becomes cold, judgmental, and isolating. Finding a good (and affordable, and accessible) therapist can seem next to impossible.
I named my blog The Crazy Chronicles to poke fun at the title (“crazy”) bestowed upon those of us suffering from mental illness. By acknowledging it directly, and even laughing about it, the title loses its power.
I suppose I’m hoping that through sharing my journey of mental illness, and being brutally honest about my experiences and emotions, that I might help fight the stigma. That I can illuminate how everyone who suffers openly doesn’t have to be a celebrity.
You can be an ordinary person fighting an extraordinary battle, and your story is just as valid, and important, as any movie star, musician, or politician.
Welcome to The Crazy Chronicles.
